Elizabeth W. King
Elizabeth King is a nationally-recognized trademark attorney with over twenty years of experience in all aspects of trademark protection and enforcement. She takes a broad approach to trademark protection, working closely with clients to secure a comprehensive strategy toward brand protection. Since 2011, World Trademark Review has named Elizabeth to its annual list of Top 1000 Trademark Practitioners Worldwide; Managing Intellectual Property Magazine has named her to its Top 250 Female IP Practitioners in the United States.
Elizabeth King represents a wide range of clients, from small businesses to multinational corporations. In addition to brand protection, Betsy also directs and formulates successful trademark theory and litigation strategy in intellectual property disputes.
Elizabeth is recognized as one of the top trademark attorneys in the United States. World Trademark Review has included Betsy in its list of Top 1000 Trademark Practitioners Worldwide every year since the inception of the list in 2011. Managing Intellectual Property Magazine named Betsy as an “IP Star” in the United States and Texas every year since 2013, and listed her as Top 250 Female IP Lawyer in the US in 2013 and 2014.
Elizabeth has spoken extensively on successful trademark practice strategies before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and has been called to testify as an expert witness on U.S. Trademark Office policies and practice. She has researched and published articles on the subject of non-traditional trademarks formulating and proposing streamlined approaches and thought processes for product design protection. Elizabeth is an associate member of the International Trademark Association and currently serves on the Trademark Reporter Committee. She previously served on the Trademark Office Practices Committee, PTO Subcommittee as well as the Non-Traditional Trademarks Committee. In 2008, she served as a Co-Instructor on U.S. Trademark Law for the Intellectual Property Survey Course at the University of Houston Law Center. Elizabeth was elected Vice President of the Houston Intellectual Property Law Association in March 2015. Prior to that, Elizabeth served on the Board of Directors and Treasurer for the Association. In 2012 she was inducted as a Barrister to the Houston IP Inn of Court in the Inn’s inaugural year. She is a member of the Intellectual Property Section of the State Bar of Texas, as well as the State Bar Trademark Committee.
Prior to joining Sutton McAughan Deaver PLLC, Elizabeth was a Shareholder at Conley Rose PC and was an Examining Attorney at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
